Carta de la presidenta de Ángeles Pedraza al director de The Wall Street Journal

Ya es hora de que todos sepan quién es Mr. Otegi

Un terrorista jamás debería tener espacio en los medios de comunicación. Pero ha vuelto pasar. En este caso, ha sido un periódico de enorme prestigio como The Wall Street Journal, quien ha dado la palabra a un terrorista. Pero la Asociación Víctimas del Terrorismo quiere lanzar un mensaje claro: Arnaldo Otegi (o Mr. Otegi como le conocen en Estados Unidos) es, según múltiples sentencias judiciales en España y en Estrasburgo, un terrorista. Señores de The Wall Street Journal, insistimos, Otegi no es un separatista, es un terrorista.

En España todos sabemos quién es Arnaldo Otegi. Sabemos que es el portavoz de una banda terrorista que lleva más de 800 asesinatos y miles de heridos en su sangriento y macabro historial que dura ya cincuenta años. Sabemos que no es un "grupo vasco" que hace "ofertas de paz", sino que es un grupo de desalmados asesinos que sólo tiene un objetivo: volver a entrar en las instituciones democráticas españolas –las que rechazan, amenazan y atacan- y financiar con dinero público sus crímenes terroristas.

Ese es Mr. Otegi. Un individuo que cumple condena por enaltecer a los asesinos. La AVT, como lleva insistiendo años a los medios de comunicación españoles e internacionales, vuelve a remarcar que no pueden darse nunca armas a los violentos, ni siquiera la palabra mediante entrevistas. Este tipo de publicaciones sólo remarcan un gran desconocimiento de la realidad de España. Aquí no hay un conflicto. No hay una guerra. No hay dos partes enfrentadas. Son unos asesinos que llevan más de 50 años matando, destrozando familias y humillando a las víctimas.

A lo largo de la historia, ninguna banda terrorista ha tenido tantas oportunidades para dejar la violencia. Las víctimas ya estamos cansadas de treguas falsas y comunicados trampa que siempre han acabado de la misma manera: asesinando a sangre fría.

Incluso ustedes, The Wall Street Journal, en su entrevista a Mr. Otegi dan una cifra: 829 muertos. Pero eso es sólo un número. La realidad se la vamos a contar: son vidas arrancadas, familias destrozadas y un sufrimiento continuo. Corazones rotos por una banda de asesinos despiadados que nunca han pensado en las víctimas. Nunca han pedido perdón. Nunca se han arrepentido de sus actos. Más bien al contrario, muchos siguen vanagloriándose de ellos y del daño causado.

Por suerte, la mayoría de los medios de comunicación españoles, aquellos que apuestan y creen en los valores democráticos, saben de sobra quién es ETA y quién es Otegi. Ya es hora de que fuera de las fronteras españolas, los periodistas de todo el mundo empiece a llamarles por sus nombres: terroristas.

Estimado director de The Wall Street Journal, acabo mi carta con un mensaje de todas las víctimas del terrorismo de España: también necesitamos su ayuda para acabar con ETA. Y eso sólo se consigue no dándoles un arma tan fuerte como la palabra para lanzar su mensaje asesino lleno de mentiras. Llámenles por su nombre. Son terroristas. Son sanguinarios asesinos.

Son más de cincuenta años sufriendo esta lacra. Ya es hora de contar con la ayuda de todos para acabar con los asesinos. Las víctimas del terrorismo necesitamos que los medios de comunicación de todo el mundo rompan el macabro silencio que ETA ha pretendido instalar y nos ayuden a reparar años de desagravios. Sólo así podremos conseguir la "Verdad, Memoria, Dignidad y Justicia" que llevamos décadas reclamando. Y es que sólo puede un final de ETA: aquel en el que haya vencedores y vencidos.

It"s time for everybody to know who "Mr. Otegui", actually is.

A terrorist should never have the chance to have "space" or voice in the media. But it happens again. In this occasion, it has been The Wall Street Journal, a really prestigious newspaper, the one who has given word to a terrorist. But we, The Terror Victims Association form Spain (AVT) want to send a clear message: Arnaldo Otegui (or "Mr. Otegui", as he is known in United States) is a terrorist, according to numerous sentences in Spain and Strasbourg. Sirs and workers from The Wall Street Journal, Otegui, let us to insist, is not a separatist. It"s just a terrorist.

We all know in Spain who is Arnaldo Otegui. We know that he has been the spokesman of a terrorist group, who has assassinated more than 800 people and had injured thousands in its bloody and macabre criminal record, that up today, last more than 50 years.

We know that ETA is not a "bask group" that offers "peace agreements" but a completely heartless group that has only a target: to return to the Spanish democratic institutions –paradoxical, those ones they reject, they threaten and they attack- to use public money to finance their terrorist crimes.

This is "Mr. Otegui", a man who is in jail paying sentence because of praising terrorists. The AVT, as it has claim during the last years to Spanish and international media, wants to stress again that we cannot give weapons to terrorist, neither "voice" through interviews in media. This kind of publications, just emphasize an enormous ignorance about the reality of Spain. In Spain there is no conflict. In Spain, there is no war. In Spain there is no confrontation between two sides. What terrorists from ETA are, are just assassins who have been killing the rest of citizens the last 50 years, destroying families and humiliating victims.

During the History no other terrorist group has had so many chances to leave violence. We, the victims, are tired of false ceasefires and trap announcements have always finished in the same way: killing in cold blood.
Even you, The Wall Street Journal, in your interview to "Mr. Otegui", give a figure: 829 killed people. But this is just a cold figure. We are going to tell you the truth, we want you to know the reality: this figures are lives ripped off, destroyed families and a continuous suffering. This figures means broken hearts by a cruel terrorist group that has never think of their victims. They, terrorist, have never apologized, have never ask for pardon. They have never remorse for their crimes. Even worse, some of those terrorist, have boasted of their killings, and of the suffering caused.
Fortunately, the majority of Spanish media, those who bet and believe in democratic values, know who actually ETA is, and Otegui is. The time has come for the international journalist and media to call them as they deserve: terrorist and assassins.

Dear Director of The Wall Street Journal, I want to finish my letter to send you a message from all Spanish terror victims: "we also need your help to put an end to ETA". This is only possible if you don"t give them such a powerful weapon as "the voice in the media"; because they used to spread their criminal message, full of lies. Please, call them for their name: just terrorists, just bloody assassins.
